SHOW. If you are free at 5 p.m. today, Monday, Dec. 23, be at the Robinsons Mall Fuente to watch a free show featuring some local entertainers to be led by Raffy Uytiepo, a.k.a. Elvis Presley of the Visayas. The show, titled “Christmas with Elvis and Friends,” is intended to bring Yuletide cheers to the general public and as a reminder to all of us that despite the recent calamities that hit some parts of the country, we still have to observe the birthday of Jesus Christ as a joyous celebration. After all, life goes on despite all odds that come our way.
Singers. This afternoon’s free show features other local singers whose passion to entertain the spectators is beyond measure. For instance, there is Jun Villahermosa whose Frank Sinatra style of singing reminds us of the chairman of the board’s incomparable way of crooning. And there’s Herbert Buot whose mellow voice reminds us of Perry Como and be mesmerized by balladeer Boyet Lim’s powerful vocal range in his own repertoire. As a breaker, magician Gilbert Amante, a.k.a. Chocolate, and the Dos Gwapos comic duo will render some intermission numbers. The show has the full support of Robinson’s Mall Fuente, Casa Ilongga, Metrografix, V12 Radgear and Summit Circle Hotel.
Meaningful. What makes a meaningful Christmas? We forwarded this question to some of our close friends and we thank them for texting back their views which we are printing here in this space. Composer-singer Jose Mari Chan quotes a portion from his album Going Home to Christmas: “Christmas is family, that’s how it will always be; giving and sharing is the real Christmas way.”
Happiness. Bantay Radyo commentator engineer Greg Senining, whose family was one of the victims of super typhoon Yolanda’s wrath, believes that despite the hardships and sufferings, all of us should be happy in observing Jesus Christ’s birthday. He also encourages those having conflicts to reconcile as the only way to make a meaningful Christmas. By the way, Senining is hosting the longest-running radio commentary program Tingog sa Lungsod which is now on its 31st year.
Family. Veteran lounge singer Baby Condeno believes that a meaningful Christmas means family unity, loving and helping one another and receiving Jesus Christ and His words.
Condeno heads the Cebu Entertainers’ Association Corp. Inc.
Reason. Carol Ballesteros of the Aboitiz Group of Companies says Jesus Christ has always been and will always be the reason for the season. Christmas exists because of Him and it’s about His gift of Himself to the whole world. She adds that all of us should bring Jesus Christ back into Christmas, not the gifts nor the glitters, and that we should let Him fill our hearts and our homes this Yuletide season.
Smile. Station manager Anabel Calayca-Lagrosas of dyMR thinks a simple but sincere smile is enough to bring joy to those suffering from the recent calamities and this is what makes a meaningful Christmas. According to her, when she was in Tacloban to help distribute relief items, the survivors were still able to smile and the feeling was so heartwarming.
Present. Band leader-singer Percival Dinopol believes that Christmas is more meaningful when everyone in the family is present and one in peace and harmony. He was one of the organizers of #Barug Visayas concert-for-a-cause.
Prayer. To this writer, a sincere prayer on a daily basis is what makes a meaningful Christmas—and even beyond the Yuletide season.
