An interpretative offering-A A +A

THE holiday atmosphere will soon blend with the changing of the season. A revelry is waiting on the other side of the calendar. Sinulog Festival will take center stage again and Cebuanos are to celebrate with gusto.
Aiming to utilize the tradition as a venue for creativity and self-expression among local artists, Cebu Artists Inc. opens 2014 with “Sinulog: An Interpretation.” The exhibit will transpire from Jan. 10 to 27, 2014 at the Ayala Center Cebu.
It won’t be an exclusive staging. The intention is to embrace other artists outside the Roman Catholic sector, the religion patronizing the country’s oldest Christian icon, Señor del Santo Niño.
It’ll be a conversation of diverse interpretations. Pieces in vertical format (40”x30” or 36”x 24”) will be exhibited by 40 participating artists. The list includes Antonio Alcoseba, Darby Vincent Alcoseba, Nunelucio Alvarado, Arnel Belda, Crispin Bobier, Ariel Caratao, Cesar Castillo, Felix Catarata, Joel Cristobal, Josua Cabrera, Methuzael Carredo, Reynan Dingal, John Dinglasa, Jess Dinglasa, Roel Fisalbon, Jet Florendo, Fred Galan, Marivel Galan, Luther Galicano, Emar Lacorte, Jorgen Lim, Ann Lubanga, Guido Lubanga, Rico Maranga, Melver Mercado, Joseph Ong, Gigi Ocampo, Radel Paredes, Renulo Torino Pautan, Manuel Panares, Celso Duazo Pepito, Fe Madrid Pepito, Remy Rault, Jojo Sagayno, Antonio Vidal, Marlon Ylanan, Jose Yap Jr., Sonia Yrastorza, Vidal Alcoseba and Palmy Tudtud.
For years, Sinulog has been a platform for strong faith among devotees. But perhaps, it’s more interactive to witness a diverse expression of understanding on the custom. The beat is on.
