THE yearly Miss Cebu pageant, to be held on Jan. 15 at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel, colors the Sinulog festival. The winners become Cebu’s Ambassadresses of Tourism who promote Cebu here and abroad. Crowned Miss Cebu 2013, Namrata Neesha Murjani, described her Hong Kong trip (her first time) as “educational and exciting.” This Asia Miles package was given through the courtesy of Cathay Pacific, through Connie Cimafranca. She was escorted by Cinbeth Orellano, Ana Quisumbing, Joey Gaisano, Apple and Trish of the Cebu City Tourism Commission (CCTC).
Yuletide food trips
Food is still Cebu’s best bet and the Yuletide season is the time to treat our relatives and visitors to savor our various specialties and dishes.
Visitors from Laguna, Ding (formerly connected with Reuters Television) and Ellen Silva spent three days in Cebu and had a good time at Choi City Restaurant, Beverly Boutique (formerly Eddie’s Hotel), Port Seafood, Laguna Garden, Chat Time (at Cebu IT Park); Cebuchon; Figaro and Bo’s Cafes at SM Consolacion and Hotel Fortuna (best machang ever).
Meanwhile, Cebu’s leading restaurants and hotels offered special buffet and plated food array: Casa Amparito, Red Box, Maribago Bluewaters, Plantation Bay, Be Resort, Anita’s, Cebu Parklane Hotel, Montebello Villa Hotel, Marco Polo Plaza Cebu, Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa, Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino, Cebu City Marriott Hotel, Radisson Blu Hotel Cebu and Cafe Laguna (and its new outlet, Ulli’s at the fourth floor of the new Ayala Wing). Ah, flair beyond compare!
Zonta area meeting 2014
Cebu is the chosen venue again for the 2014 District 17 area meeting on Jan. 10-11, at the Quest Hotel with some 100 Zontians led by governor Winnie Teoh, Area 3 director Anita Sanchez, hosts Zonta 1 and 2 headed by presidents Lucille Colina and Myrna Tan respectively, and District 17 board members. This meeting covers district and area reports and club’s presentations and a revisit of Zonta’s vision and goals. Resolutions will be adopted to guide the next biennium.

Some basic tips in dining. The host should not be the first one to order her food but invites the guest to select her dishes first, with the former’s guidance, if needed.
When paying, it is suggested that the host refrain from questioning loudly regarding the bill, so as not to embarrass her guests. This could be done discretely and quietly.
Some basic reminders: Don’t use the toothpick, or do your make-up in the dining table.
Avoid using “psst,” or motioning with your hand when calling a waiter. Just say, “Waiter! Please hand me the bill!” In a plated dinner, in a small group, wait for others to have their soup, salad and other dishes, before starting with yours. In buffet, follow the line and do not linger while choosing your food. Remember, there are others as hungry as you are. Please have a moderate amount of food in your plate; after all, you could always go back for more servings.
