CEBU welcomed the Wooden Horse in various rites held at Imperial Hotel, Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino, Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa, Marco Polo Plaza Cebu and various resort hotels with the colorful lion and dragon dance, eye-dotting ceremony, coin tossing and firecrackers, with of course, rich Chinese meals.
Wedding in the Year of the Horse
The first wedding I attended in 2014 was that of Emmanuel, son of Lito and Fe Roden, and Rowena, daughter of Rodolfo and Roquita Caballero. Reception was at Casino Español de Cebu.
Books and Library
The CCCI book was launched at the Marco Polo Hotel. Authored by CCCI past president, Dr. Efren Valinte, the book traced the historical milestones of the Cebu Chamber spanning 100 + 10 years.
The Bank of Philippine Islands introduced two projects, Salapi, a coffee table book, which contains historical trails and photos of all kinds of money; evolution of the coins and banknotes of the Philippines. The unveiling of the BPI Library, a co-project of BPI Foundation and Ayala Foundation was likewise launched. A business library to be managed by the University of San Carlos, which opens opportunities for students for business and related reading and research was inaugurated.
Note: Last week’s column title is “What’s up in 2014.”
SP Comm Kit. Business usage: There are business terms which should be buried in the Graveyard Vocabulary. These jargons are no longer effective: Attached hereto please find (choose one); the undersigned (say, “I”); I remain (Stay! I’m leaving!); as to the report (the report states). In reference to (referring to); this is to acknowledge receipt of ( We received). There are so many wordy business terms which are no longer used, so make you business communication short and simple!
