TYPHOON Yolanda (international name, Haiyan)—after unleashing all its fury, ferocity, destruction and death in our country last year—did elicit worldwide attention and subsequently, help from various countries came in the form of relief and rehabilitation.

Waterfront Airport Hotel and Casino (WAHC) in Mactan was very honored and privileged to house some of the international volunteers who came for this purpose. After their humanitarian and back-breaking task in Cebu and neighboring provinces was over, the hotel capped their stay with an appreciation party.

Mostly men in uniform filled the venue. Members of the Royal Australian Air Force, Australian army and navy, groups from HKL Logistics, United Nations Children’s Fund, United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNCHR) and World Food Programme (WFP) mingled with the hotel’s department heads, the sales and marketing staff.

Accounts of pathos and tragedy, which the volunteers witnessed and shared, made the hosts even more appreciative of their efforts. Daghang salamat to all of you!

Bibendum Wine Shop continues to host wine tasting to further promote their latest offerings. One such event was held recently at their venue, the MLD Bldg. in Banilad.

Cebu’s discriminating oenophiles and wine enthusiasts were very visible, not only to savor the shop’s latest additions, to their already varied selections of excellently-rated American and European wines, but also for a loftier goal.

That evening, 10 percent of total sales would be earmarked for typhoon relief efforts in Northern Cebu, particularly the fishermen, whose lives had to be rebuilt, by building and rebuilding their fishing boats.

So when you drop by the shop to purchase some of their latest wines like Kressman Solo, the Taja Bodega Series (including the Green Series, an organic wine), Cheval Noir or Seleccion Solitario, know that you’re doing a good deed!
