IT WAS balikbayans night at The Terraces of Ayala Center when Cebu Holdings Inc. (CHI) hosted its traditional welcome dinner for them during the Sinulog week. In his welcome remarks, CHI president Francis Monera reiterated the commitment of the Ayala Group to the yearly Balik Cebu party.
The occasion also saw the launching of the BalikBalay campaign organized by the Balik Cebu committee. Project chairperson Tetta Baad gave an overview of the project which aims to provide houses for the typhoon victims in the badly hit town of Pilar, Camotes. A substantial amount was raised that night, thanks to Cebu City Mayor Mike Rama, who serenaded the balikbayans, to the supportive Ayala group, and to the hard working committee members - Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale, former Department of Tourism director Dawnie Roa, Cebu City Toursim Council commissioner Alice Queblatin, among them.
And speaking of balikbayans, we have recent arrivals Dr. Luciano Valdez and wife Vicky (Neri) from Illinois; Ted and Flammie Alo from Michigan; and Nick and Inia Veloso from Ohio, who have chosen to spend Valentine's day in dear old Cebu. Also in town are Germany-residents Hans and Cherrie (Duterte) Gross who are on extended vacation here; and Hong Kong-based Vickie Viajar Peard who now divides her time between HK and Cebu.
They all met for dinner at Lantaw up Busay Hills in the company of former Cebu City mayor Alvin Garcia and wife Ninette.

Early morning joggers Alvin and Ninette Garcia played breakfast hosts to their group of avid joggers who are known as the Ayala joggers because they run around the grounds of the Cebu Business Park.
