Pretty Valentine looks
What are your plans for Valentine’s Day? If you’ve read my stories for other sections of Sun.Star Cebu, you’ll see that I’ve said that today is not just for people who are taken. Single people can have fun, too! Whether you’re having a romantic evening or a fun night out with friends, do a little something-something with your makeup tonight. Here are a couple of looks to inspire you.
You and your guy are going to be looking into each other’s eyes a lot tonight (cheesy but true!) so make those peepers as alluring as possible. Dark smokey eyes may be a little too much or too different for him, especially if you don’t wear this look often. Makeup like Charlize Theron’s looks like you made an effort, but didn’t go overboard. It’s soft and sultry at the same time.
Pick romantic colors like champagne, rose gold, or lavender for your lids, then smoke them out with dark brown or gray. Layering your lid and smokey colors on the bottom lash line using a pencil brush adds more dimension than just applying the smokey color there.
You can opt for either pencil or liquid eyeliner, but pencil lends a softer look, and you can smudge it for a sexier effect. Apply plenty of mascara on top and bottom lashes, or choose a pair of natural-looking falsies. Just make sure to comb out any clumps to avoid that spidery look. Brush off any eyeshadow fallout beneath the eyes, then clean up with foundation or concealer.
A warm pink or coral blush will give you just enough color. Lightly dust highlighter on cheekbones and brow bones. It will look super pretty catching the light in a dim restaurant.
Red lipstick may rub off on your wine glass or on your guy, and he probably will not want to kiss a lot of sticky lip gloss. Choose a more subtle pinky nude lipstick or light gloss, which also won’t compete with your smokey eyes. You can also go with a lip stain for the most natural texture.
Whatever you do, don’t overload on makeup. He wants to see your face, not your foundation. And never wear a makeup look that you aren’t comfortable with, or you’re going to be checking your mirror all night instead of checking out your date.
Guys sometimes don’t understand certain makeup, like more eyeliner and darker lipstick than usual. If you’re going out with friends, it’s a good time to try a look like actress Sarah Hyland’s. She has on pale copper eyeshadow on the lid, a soft brown to define the outer half of the crease, winged liner, lots of lashes, and burgundy red lipstick.
It might sound like a lot, but look, it works! Leave your cheeks bare if you’re doing lots of color on both eyes and lips. Just do your foundation routine as usual and blot away shine. Also, to avoid looking a little too goth, shy away from an all-black ensemble.
Whatever you’re doing tonight, have a great time!
