NOT that you haven’t noticed, but it’s Valentine’s Day today, with romance in the spotlight. Whether one is single or taken, a beautiful and romantic dress always gives a woman added confidence to be herself, so that she becomes more alluring to her beloved or to prospective suitors.

Capturing both the sweetness and seduction of a woman, designer Hanz Coquilla uses fabrics like Spanish lace, silk chiffon, paillettes and French tulle in this mini collection. In red, gold and ochre, the materials become even richer and more luxurious. The figure-hugging silhouettes of these dresses embrace a woman’s shape.

Hanz wanted the fabric to be free and fluid: “I’m letting it flow down to the hem, and it adds to that kind of sexiness in each piece.”

An ochre dress combines the sweet innocence of pale colored Spanish lace with the subtle seduction of a womanly silhouette. This isn’t the sweet frock that little girls wear as their Sunday best: the close-cut bodice and the long, flowing skirt flatter a shape that is all grown up.

The sheer fabrics and luxurious paillettes on a shimmering gold dress serve to reveal and conceal seductively, but no actual skin is shown with wrist-length sleeves and gold that flows past floor length. The play of leading the eyes over the body’s curves without actually revealing anything creates a sexiness that is hinted at, yet is fully on display.

Few tangible things universally signify love more than red roses. In a red dress that radiates romance and passion, rosettes hug the upper body and seem to float from the shoulders to the arms. In another measured use of revealing and concealing, the front appears to be completely open, yet does not show any skin. A gathered skirt with a soft shape and in a soft fabric adds to the allure of this dress, sexy but not overt.

With this mini collection, Hanz creates a balance of sweet and sultry, tempting but classy.

“That’s what every Hanz Coquilla piece is all about,” the designer says of his work. “Fabulously sexy and classy, without showing too much skin. There’s always that mystery that lies in every piece I make.”
