Singlestalk: Let it go-A A +A

MICHELLE: Just very recently I asked God for something and stormed the heavens to get what I wanted. It’s not something material but very material to someone very close to my heart.
I did not get what I specifically asked for and frankly, at first, I was very disappointed. But then I realized that I was being unfair to God, not to say ungrateful too. He is not a vendo machine and prayers are not directives or to-do lists.
I read somewhere that “when God takes something from your grasp; He is not punishing you, but merely opening your hands to receive something better.” We do not always get what we want and for everything and anything, there is a reason and a season.
DJ: I am no stranger to disappointments myself. And they cost me sleepless nights, not to mention being depressed about how things turned out. But I learned that we can only grieve up to a certain point. After that, we already need to make a decision to collect ourselves, stand up and move forward. It’s a tough decision. At first, we have to walk on wobbly feet. But we need to keep moving.
Life has its ups and downs and it is essential that we make that crucial decision not to give up after a fall.
M: I remember one reader who asked if it is better to stay single or get married to the wrong person. It’s a no brainer. Stay single of course! But there are some who think that staying single is not a good option and if they remain single, they will be a disappointment. I disagree.
One’s value and worth as a person are not based on one’s status. Getting married does not assure anyone of happiness. One can be happy whatever one’s state of life. Happiness is a state of mind.
DJ: As a single person myself, I can say that being single has its ups and downs. I would think it’s the same for those who are married. Ultimately, no one promised us a perfect life. But in each one of us is the grace to be happy amidst life’s challenges.
Happiness is not a destination we aspire to be in. It’s a journey. It’s in how we live each moment, and how true we are with ourselves and in the decisions we make.
M: We aspire, we hope and sometimes we get disappointed because we don’t get what we want. Life is like that. But life is still good. Even if I did not exactly get what I earnestly prayed for, I am very grateful for the blessings, the silver lining behind the cloud.
The challenges strengthened my faith and my resolve to hold on knowing that nothing is impossible with God.
