Satay Satay’s take on Cebuano Street Food

-A A +A

CEBUANO cuisine is given a cool new twist at Satay Satay. The restaurant soft opened last March 6 and will be having their grand launching within the month.

Satay is the national dish of Indonesia, but is widespread in other Southeast Asian countries. The Filipino version is skewered, barbecued over charcoal fire, and served with spicy sauce.

Satay Satay serves Cebuano favorites with a hot pot of peanut sauce. After heating the pot, different skewered food, like crab, quail egg, hotdog, chicken, kangkong (swamp cabbage), and fish balls among others, are cooked for a few minutes then enjoyed with a huge puso.

They have a puso (hanging rice) station, where the process of cooking the rice is shown to the customers. This is an interesting take on this Cebuano specialty.

To enjoy the dishes even more, the customers are encouraged to partake food with their bare hands, like the traditional Filipino way of eating.

“This is a sophisticated spin on the usual Cebuano street food,” Robert Williams, owner.

Instead of eating these Cebuano favorites on the street, Satay Satay provides the same eating experience but in a cleaner and safer environment.

Satay Satay is located along Morales Street, at the back of Harold’s Hotel. It is currently open for dinners from 5 to 11 p.m. for its soft opening but will be open for lunch and dinners after their grand launching. (ADO)
