Utzurrum: CVCM marks 12-A A +A
Wednesday, April 16, 2014
THE week gradually turns somber and serene, as today starts the commemoration of Our Lord’s Passion and Crucifixion, and triumphant resurrection on Easter Sunday.
For your guidance, we are printing here some of the Holy Week devotions at the Sacred Heart Parish on D. Jakosalem St.
Today marks Triduum Day One with Fr. Jose Ramon “Jed” Villarin S.J., as retreat director, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., mornings only. Venue is Sacred Heart Parish Church.
Day Two, Good Friday, April 18, follows, same time same place and last day, April 19, Black Saturday, ends the Triduum Retreat.
Don’t miss this. Fr. Jed is a terrific speaker! There’s another Jesuit we want you to meet. Fr. Paul Jesuraja, hailing from the Madurai Province of the Society of Jesus in South India.
Fr. Paul went to his doctoral studies in Theology in the USA, after completing high school and college in Jesuit Institutions, and finishing his priestly formation. Upon return to India, he taught Theology in five seminaries there.
In Cebu till April 27, Fr. Paul will be the Liturgy presider on Good Friday at 3:00 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Church.
Has it been 12 years? The members of the Catholic Volunteers for Charity Movement (CVCM) asked themselves. They lasted this long and certainly this called for some jubilation!
A simple dinner marked their anniversary at the residence of founder Socorro “Coring” Valencia.
On this occasion, they recounted their many acts of charity, namely; feeding programs for the indigent kids of Guadalupe Parish area, raising funds to be able to buy goods for distribution to fire and typhoon victims. Last Christmas, they had caroling from house-to-house to generate relief funds.
Other times, they distribute rosaries and rosary guides to various parishes in the province of Cebu, etc.
The evening’s agenda included the induction of club officers for the year and giving of certificates of appreciation to “Friends of CVCM.”
So here they are: The Club Stewards for the year; president Trinidad Modina; vice president Vic Quilaton; secretary Dr. Nancy Bayani; treasurer Pat Makabenta; auditor Ester Acero; monitor Aster Patalingjug; PRO Trudis Rodriguez; custodian Cheryl Quilaton; social coordinator Nito Flores. CVCM, may your tribe increase!
