A TOTAL of 12 fishing boats were turned over by Sea Olympus Marketing Inc. (SOMI) to the selected fishermen in Barangay Pulambato, Bogo City.
The project was the company’s support of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources’s (BFAR) “Ahon! Sampung Libong Bangka para sa Dalawampung Libong Pamilya,” which aims to rebuild the livelihood of fishermen affected by super typhoon Yolanda.
SOMI representatives headed by chief operations officer Nikko Ivan G. Wu and Engr. John Fel Bandiala, research supervisor, joined BFAR Assistant Regional Director Allan Poguita and Bogo City Mayor Celestino Martinez Jr. in awarding the fishing boats to the beneficiaries.
A boat building site owned by Jun Jusay was set-up to speed up the rehabilitation in northern Cebu.
With his help, the beneficiaries were able to receive the fishing boats.
These fishing boats are made of high quality resin and fiberglass from the leading brand of composite materials, Polyklear. These fiber-reinforced polymer bancas are durable, corrosion-resistant and lighter compared to wood.
It can withstand extreme weather conditions.
Through this project, SOMI provided sustained assistance to fishermen who lost their basic livelihood tools when Yolanda struck northern Cebu in November last year.
