Taiheiyo suppliers’ men plant 5,260 seedlings-A A +A

A HUNDRED employees of various suppliers of Taiheiyo Cement Philippines Inc. (TCPI) planted 5,260 seedlings of young trees at where earth materials used for manufacturing cement were once mined out in Barangay Bugho, San Fernando.
Mining company Solid Earth Development Corp. (SEDC) led the recent activity that employees of Triple 8 Trucking and F.A. Manpower also participated in at what was a site for clay quarry that covered a total of 4.5-hectares.
SEDC conducted the tree planting activity as part of its Environmental Protection and Enhancement Program (EPEP) jointly pursued with TCPI to rehabilitate areas it previously operated on.
Prepared at the nursery in adjacent Barangay Magsico, the volunteers planted 1,644 mahogany seedling, 1,114 kalantas seedlings and 1,020 nangka fruit trees, disclosed Emylita B. Ortega, SEDC senior manager for administration and human resources.
The group also planted 409 acacia seedlings, 302 indian tree, 296 neem tree, 136 aurey, 105 narra, 86 mango, 74 anunang and also 74 kape seedlings along with some residents in the area who also helped, added SEDC staff Michael A. Loguiber.
A semi-annual activity, TCPI employees earlier planted more than 5,000 young trees at the buffer zones of company’s cement plant in Barangay South Poblacion and along the provincial road going to Barangay Tinubdan.
In both activities, nursery personnel already dug holes for easier and faster planting, while on standby were first-aid kits and the TCPI patrol car to ensure that any untoward incident will have been attended to right away.
