“Eyes on the ball,” advises a tennis coach to his trainee.
In analogy, we must not lose focus on the main concern involving the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) scam, which is to prosecute those allegedly involved and to eventually recover the huge amount of taxpayers’ money. Of the more than P300 billion, so far only P40 million has been reportedly recovered.
It is an intellectual suicide to give credence to the several Napolists that have lately surfaced. If the lists are not supported by documents, we have to ignore them.
In a television interview, Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago gave her usual analytic opinion on the matter, saying the varied Napolists are attempts to confuse the Filipino citizenry and to cast doubt on the integrity of the whistle blowers, particularly Benhur Luy. Who stands to benefit from the confusion?
Defensor suspected the timely expose’ of the additional legislators allegedly involved in the PDAF scam could be a ploy by the litigants: “The Ombudsman is expected to decide on the motion for reconsideration filed by Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile, Sen. Bong Revilla and Sen. Jinggoy Estrada.
Should the Ombudsman find cause for filing the case with the Sandiganbayan, the plunder case against the three legislators will be filed and issuance of warrants of arrest will follow.
The question that stems from this development is: “How sincere is Janet Lim Napoles in assisting the government in its investigation into the billion-peso PDAF scam?”
Delaying the investigation of the case is denying the millions of Filipinos who could have been the recipients of government assistance and other priority projects like farm to market roads, housing for the poor, school buildings, creating hospitals, building dams, etc.
Should there be a constitutional change, I would like to ask our legislators to include in the amendments denying pardon to convicted plunderers. If our legislative body is really sincere in their public service, keeping in mind the plight of the Filipino people, then the inclusion of the amendment is valid.
