Utzurrum: Flower artistry, diplomatic hospitality-A A +A
Wednesday, May 28, 2014
THE high energy and artistically motivated members of the Ikebana International Cebu Chapter 145 and Ikenobo Ikebana Society of Cebu joined hands with SM City Cebu to present a delightful afternoon of “Fun Through Flowers,” an exhibit of their innate love for floral art, the Japanese way.
But of course, their special guest had to be honorable Shoji Otake, Counselor and Consul of Japan in Cebu, who was accompanied by his charming better half, Naomi, and other distinguished Japanese ladies.
The exhibit area was teeming with onlookers, curiously peering at the colorful and stunning arrangements, that evoked admiration, for nature’s bounty.
Guest exhibitors were Ikebana International Clubs of Manila chapter 108, Davao chapter 133 and Cagayan de Oro chapter 163, who were warmly welcomed by Cebu chapter 145 president Norma Sanchez and her cordial officers and board members.
Cocktails followed the successful affair, which has never failed to enthrall us for many years now. More power, Ikebana!
Every inch an “Ambassador Plenipotentiary of the Republic of the Philippines,” former ambassador of our country to various world capitals, Francisco Benedicto, again manifested the genial, cordial and warm side of his personality by hosting a dinner for 22 members of the Diplomatic Corps, at the Grand Convention Center of Cebu.
Our beloved true-blue Cebuano Frank (as we call him) gathered these Manila-based (but soon to be assigned abroad) emissaries, who were on an orientation tour of Cebu’s famed tourist attractions. On their agenda were visits to our rich and vibrant natural resources as well as culture and heritage sites, churches, etc.
Frank, who has a wealth of knowledge tucked under his belt, shared this with the new guys on the block, to better “sell” our picturesque islands, especially Cebu, to the world! Thank God for people like Frank who was born to be an ambassador.
