TOURISM seeps through in many aspects of business, culture and education. Now we see the multi-sectoral interactions in making Cebu a good brand and product to accelerate trade and investment.

All these years, the academe and business groups, like the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, have explored, developed and sustained advocacy programs in culture of tourism, eco-heritage tours (exploring new landmarks); and brochures; performing arts to enhance Talento Cebuano; human resources and services (Eskwela Turismo) to make local tourism units more functional, tourist-friendly and efficient; and small scale tourism entrepreneurship through “People Success Stories.” For how can we talk of accelerating investment if the product, which is Cebu, is not saleable? Yes, power, infrastructures and services are our concerns as well, but the national government has the power to deal with these.

Expect July and August to bounce back with the Culture of Tourism Congress; “People Success Stories” and Talento Cebuano with the concerted efforts of the Commission on Higher Education, the academe, Cebu Chamb er of Commerce and Industry tourism committee, Zontal Club 1, We Care and Lhuillier Educational Foundations, Speechcom, Amcham, Department of Tourism, the City and Province of Cebu, and other partners in the media, travel and tourism. Watch for it!

Yes siree, the annual Fil-American Friendship Day, at 6:30 p.m., Friday, July 4, Marco Polo Plaza Hotel, will honor our troops, then and now; swing back the ‘40s hits from World War II and the years of the United Service Organizations; the Filipino and US veterans and soldiers, who fought for our gift of liberty. Then, we will have a Bob Hope throwback special, with flashbacks of The Andrews Sisters and other Hollywood entertainers and stars, who lifted the spirits of our soldiers amid the woes of the battlefield. The event will see the most-awaited performances of John Domingo, Alice Woolbright, Herbert Buot, the Lhuillier Larks; Knapsack dancers; Level-up Band; Bill Mallory, among others. Cebu will recall how former Cebu City Mayor Mario Ortiz, assisted General Douglas MacArthur; raffles of airline tickets courtesy of Korean Air, Delta, Grand Holidays, and the list continues; dancing till you drop. Fun, fellowship and friendship!!
