DESPITE being a Friday, provincial officials and employees will be in attires usually worn on Mondays when they gather in front of the Capitol building today for the scheduled flag raising ceremony.

They will be joined by officials from the different municipalities and component cities of the province. The date marks the formal opening of the 445th Founding Anniversary of Cebu as a province.

THE actual date of the anniversary is Aug. 6 yet, which is a holiday for Cebu province, but the celebration will start today and will last till the last day of the month.

Different activities have been lined up like the launching of the digital tourism, the family day, the awarding rites for the Capitol sports fest, the holding of the Ironman 7.3 on Sunday, the launching of the Bidlisiw Awards (Aug. 8) for Cebu residents who have contributed to its growth and development and the Halad sa Kabataan grand finals on Aug. 15, among others.

I stand corrected. The opening of the movie Once A Princess is on Aug. 6 and not the other date I mentioned sometime ago. This is the first time for Erich Gonzales, Enchong Dee and JC De Vera to collaborate for an adult drama where they are said to bare their bodies, hearts and souls in redefining what the phrase ‘happily ever after’ actually means.

Enchong is said to be portraying his most mature role so far as Leonard. Erich, as Erin, will once again be in her dramatic best like before while JC will breathe life to the role of Damian in his movie debut with Skylight Films.

The movie is co-produced by Regal Films. Since Aug. 6 is a holiday in Cebu, expect throngs of rabid movie enthusiasts to troop to movie houses if they have nothing else to do.

Credit Erich Gonzales’ fluency in the Visayan language to sort of lower the level of impatience and boredom of the Cebu entertainment media members who waited for her and Enchong last Saturday in an upscale restaurant somewhere in Mabolo.

When asked what made them arrive so late, Erich, brandishing her sweet smile, apologized in Visayan and appealed to those present not to be angry as it was not entirely their fault. We agreed but some went to the social media to express their sentiments.

Honestly, had it not been for the promo diva, Josie Pereyra, who has always been very good to us, many would have left the place in a huff. This is not the first time that Kapamilya stars did this to the Cebu press and to think we did not gate crash to those events.

We did not even complain when the Daniel Padilla-Kathryn Bernardo handlers insisted on holding the press con in a very uncomfortable setting inside a van, considering that the duo had much time to kill after the show in the nearby hotel before their flight back to Manila.

I hope that will be the last time as I’m not sure that the group will still have the patience, tolerance and understanding the next time around.

“Free yourself!” is the new battle cry of sorts among Lapu-Lapu City residents as the local government unit launched its new brand as the Historic Resort City in a fitting ceremony at the Lapu-lapu City Hoopsdome.

The new jingle is lively and has recall. The official colors speak for the city: sky blue for being trustworthy, dependable, secure and responsible; golden yellow (positivity, light, warmth, motivation, creativity); persimmon orange (vitality, fun, playful, exuberant); and, forest green (wealth, health, prestige, serenity).

Congratulations to the officials and everybody involved in the project.

I was tickled pink when singer Angeline Quinto remarked that Mayor Paz Radaza looks like Susan Roces, to which the beauteous mayor reportedly retorted that she looks more like Helen Gamboa.

Both veteran actresses have maintained their beauty through the years. You’re in good company then, Mayor Paz! Take a bow!

I agree with the observation that Kapuso star Aljur Abrenica may have been ill-advised in going to court for the rescission of his contract with the network. He could just have requested for a dialogue with the bosses.

GMA 7’s statement is that the network “does not release its talents from their existing contracts without a valid cause or basis particularly if the reasons cited by its talents are not true.”

So there. Will this development mark the end of Aljur’s career? Keep posted.
