SACRED Heart School-Hijas Batch 1984 has partnered with Primary Structures Educational Foundation Inc. (PSEFI) in its poverty alleviation program through skills training.

Last July 12, Batch ‘84 signed a memorandum of understanding, cooperation and partnership with PSEFI to sponsor the tuition of Sienna Trocio Casas, Vicky Ramos Villegas and Jeniffer Hisola Gacayan, who will take the 54-day housekeeping course at the School of Knowledge for Industrial Labor, Leadership and Service (Skills) run by the foundation.

Aside from the tuition, the batch will also give the scholars an allowance to help them with their food, transportation and other needs.

Skills, located at the old Sacred Heart School for Boys campus on Gen. Maxilom Ave., Cebu City, offers construction-related courses like carpentry, masonry, welding, electrical installation and heavy equipment operation, as well as hospitality-related courses like housekeeping. It is accredited by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, said PSEFI executive director Ludy Marie Lawas.

The foundation will provide the scholars with classroom lecture and hands-on workshop, on-the-job training with local business establishments, competency assessment and certification, and help in finding employment.

PSEFI chief operating officer Paulette Liu said students who need help with tuition at Skills may apply for scholarship, while organizations that sponsor students can get a tax deduction.
