Hanging out from morning to night: Terrific Thursday-A A +A
Wednesday, August 20, 2014
A TRENDY new dining and hangout spot has just opened in the upscale expansion area of Ayala Center Cebu. Called The Social, the establishment is a restaurant and cafe by day, and a bar by night.
The New York-inspired interiors are industrial and modern, but comfortable. Exposed pipes, bricks and graffiti on the walls are combined with bar stool seating and plush couches, an open kitchen, and indoor and outdoor bar.
The Social attracts families and anyone looking to get a bite from brunch to dinner with its Australasian-European menu of salads, hearty dishes and desserts. Main courses include penne carbonara with bacon, onion, mushroom and parmesan cheese; chicken parmigiana; the bacon and avocado sandwich; and grilled porkchop with bell peppers and olive compote. Freshly made pizzas come in different flavors, from the well-loved margherita to new varieties like mushrooms with truffle oil and pork salami with black olives. Throughout the day, the cafe offers TWG teas and gourmet coffees.
When the sun goes down, the space evolves into an edgy lounge with music by local and international DJs. Local and imported beers are available, while an interesting cocktail list includes signature mixes: the Cebu Cosmos, infused with Stoli cranberry, Cointreau, mango juice and soda water; and the Social Butterfly, a mix of Malibu rum, cassis, calamansi juice and soda.
The Social is owned and operated by Tadcaster Hospitality, which also has restaurants in Singapore and Australia. This is the company’s first venture in the Philippines. When asked why his company decided to make its first venture for the country in Cebu, Tadcaster founder John Hatherley simply says, “I just really like Cebu.”
The Social is open daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
