WHILE dainty coffee nooks are growing like mushrooms here and around the metro, it’s kind of hard to find food and drinks that are of great quality but don’t make a huge dent on one’s budget. But as for Natalie Chua, proprietor of 88 Degree Café, a perfect cup of joe doesn’t have to be too pricey.
Natalie decided to open up her very own coffee shop to share her love for coffee. “Independent coffee shops are gaining popularity because of the artisan coffee and their personal touch. As a coffee lover, I want to share my idea of how my perfect cup of coffee would taste like,” she said.
The name of the café is derived from the temperature that they brew their beans in. “I find that our beans taste best when brewed in this temperature,” Natalie said.
As she was a student herself, she wanted to open a place that would be perfect for students: reasonably priced and comfortable with ample space for either chitchats or studying. The café is spacious with comfy seating areas in the first and second floors. People who hang out in the café would always have their personal space to themselves.
88 Degree Café boasts of great quality coffee drinks. Its espresso consists of an aromatic blend of Arabica and Robusta beans flown in from Europe, while their brewed coffee is purely Arabica beans grown in our own Filipino soil with a distinctly pleasant aroma.
Fresh cakes and pastries are also available for café goers. Their apple cinnamon cake is best paired with its signature brewed coffee—perfect for an afternoon snack. Other delectable eats that are also bestsellers are their caramel macchiato, hot chocolate, chocolate truffle and blueberry cheesecake. The café has also recently launched their breakfast menu which consist of sandwiches and rice meals.
“Majority of the feedback we receive is that people love our quality food and drinks which are all at a reasonable price,” Natalie said. Truly good quality can be attained even if one is on a budget.
88 Degree Café is located at Unit 1, Plaza Nouvelle, 2E Benedicto St., Zapatera, Cebu City, right across No. 9 Restaurant. Follow them on Facebook (facebook.com/88degreecafe) and Instagram (@88degreecafe) for daily updates or inquiries.
