Cecilia Manguerra Brainard

LAUNCHING her newest release entitled Magdalena released by the University of Santo Tomas Publishing House, the writer Cecilia Manguerra Brainard’s book was written and inspired by her Filipino background. The event took place that one afternoon at the Parkmall Central Park followed by an Open Mic with many guests in attendance. Excerpts from the book were read by various people to a well-focused audience.

Cecilia Manguerra Brainard is an author and editor of 19 books, who co-founded Pawwa (Philippine-American Women Writers and Artists). She also founded Philippine American Literary House. Brainard’s other works include the World War II novel When the Rainbow Goddess Wept and Woman With Horns and Other Stories. She edited several anthologies including Fiction by Filipinos in America, Contemporary Fiction by Filipinos in America, and two volumes of Growing Up Filipino I and II, books used by educators (source: Wikipedia). It was also the death of her father that encouraged her to write, to speak to him through her writing.

The book Magdalena is described by the writer herself as a mysterious, interesting, charming and surprising read.
