ONE hundred contemporary galleries in Asia, alongside the most established galleries around the world, gather again for Art Central in Hong Kong to showcase the next generation of emerging artists. The annual exhibition for Hong Kong Art Week is a highly anticipated event which serves as a venue for both established and up-and-coming artists. Art Central 2017 will run from March 20 to 25 in Central Harbourfront, Hong Kong and this year, Cebu’s very own Qube Gallery is once again taking part in the occasion, this time featuring one of the Philippines’ celebrated artists, Adeste Deguilmo.
Basilan-born Adeste Deguilmo’s artworks greatly reflect the Filipino culture, past and present, in a highly eclectic and expressionistic manner. Discovering his forte at a young age, Deguilmo has been winning recognition since age 15. His natural abilities were further developed when he studied at the University of the Philippines-Cebu as a Fine Arts major. There, he was mentored by the renowned Cebuano painter, dubbed the “Dean of Filipino painters,” Martino Abellana.
Adeste is not too far from following in the footsteps of the great Filipino masters. As art critic Cid Reyes once described Adeste in the following words: “He is quickly emerging, now in his mature years, and after decades of sustained critical triumph and well-deserved laurels—indeed, once winning five major painting awards within a year—as a Filipino master in his own right.”
Although Qube Gallery was originally conceptualized as a platform for artists in the Southern Philippines, it has evolved into an engaging venue for local and international visual artists. Their participation in this year’s Art Central only cements their status as one of the primary advocates in promoting Cebuano and Filipino talent to the world. PR
Art Central will be held from March 20 to 25 at the Central Harbourfront Event Space, 9 Lung Wo Road, Central in Hong Kong. You may visit their website:http://artcentralhongkong.com/ or email them: email@example.com
