Ateneo de Cebu students bring home international Math Olympiad medals

EIGHT students of the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu won medals in two competitions held in Vietman and Singapore earlier this month.

Vittorio Gabriele Acusar, the lone participant from Cebu, won the silver medal in the World Mathematics Invitational Finals held in Ton Duc Thang University in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, last July 14 to 18. Acusar was one of the 41 representatives from the Philippines. Ten countries from Southeast Asia participated in the competition.

Seven other students of the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu also joined the Singapore International Math Olympiad Challenge (Simoc) 2017 held at the Canadian International School in Singapore from July 15 to 16, 2017.

Seventeen countries and some 1,000 students participated in the event, including 38 from the Philippines.

During the awarding ceremony at the National University of Singapore, students from Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu garnered silver, bronze and merit awards.

The silver medalists are Matthew Andrei Go (Grade 3), Joshua Caleb Gulayan (Grade 4) and Thomas Jade Kitamura (Grade 6).

The bronze medalists are Anthon Kintanar (Grade 5) and Jedric Ivor Zafra (Grade 10)

Zander Holoyohoy (Grade 6) and James Lallave (Grade 6) received merit awards. (SunStar Cebu)
