THE buffet tables at Café Marco were teeming with Swiss goodness from A to Z for the Swiss culinary journey hosted by Marco Polo Plaza Cebu. From Alpine beef to Zurich-style meats, there were also many varieties of cheese, sausages and ham served alongside the regular international buffet at the hotel’s signature restaurant. An exciting addition to this year’s setup were not just one but two raclette stations, where chefs heated up the cheese and served it on diners’ plates for a fresh serving each time. Swiss chocolates and cakes were served at the dessert stations, but as usual, we couldn’t leave Café Marco without also having some of the signature Malicious Cookies straight out of the oven.
As the culinary journey was the 11th time the hotel was celebrating Swiss National Day, First Secretary and Consul of the Embassy of Switzerland to the Philippines Gregor Fristche graced the event opening and welcomed guests along with hotel general manager Brian Connelly.
While the Swiss culinary journey ran only for a few days, guests still have more occasions to check out Marco Polo Plaza, particularly for fans of the wildly popular show Game of Thrones. As the seventh season runs, the hotel hosts viewing parties for a limited number of fans to enjoy the show complete with an LED wall for an epic experience. During the premiere screening, boxes of Malicious Cookies were handed out to trivia game winners, and Anton Java won a gift certificate for an overnight stay with breakfast for being the best in costume as Jon Snow. Upping the Game of Thrones experience are specially themed items like the Sizzling Tyrion Lannister Sisig with Dragon’s Egg and the tequila-based Priestess Melisandre cocktail. It’s definitely worth checking out if you’re a GoT fan, so inquire at the hotel and reserve seats ahead if you want to catch the next viewing party.
