Current hair care

Thursday, February 08, 2018

I HAVE been getting questions from several people about what I do for my hair. My hair does not always cooperate with me, but thanks anyway to those who say it looks good and healthy! Here’s what I do to manage my mane.

Hair color

I’ve been going to Piandre Salon at Oakridge Business Center for a couple of years now. I’ve been coloring my hair for over a decade, but not until now have I ever gotten so many compliments on my color. Piandre uses Lakme dyes, which are less damaging to the hair. Mine feels softer and smoother now than when I had it colored before with supposedly organic and low-ammonia dyes. Piandre colorists are also such experts that you do not see any harsh lines when hair grows out, so now I only need to go to the salon for color twice a year instead of every quarter.

Hair cut

A lot of people ask me where I get my hair cut, and the answer is right at home. My dad and I have been getting our hair cut by the same stylist, Francis, for years. Whether I ask for a lob or thinner layers or bangs, Francis is able to do it. Francis, since you’re a regular reader of SunStar, hello!

Shampoo and conditioner

The Palmolive Intensive Moisture shampoo is one I’ve been using on and off for years since it works well on my wavy hair (and smells nice too), as does the Tresemme Keratin Smooth conditioner. After my hair underwent some bleaching because I wanted highlights, I used Lakme shampoo and conditioner from Piandre, which is pricey but lasts for months because you only need to use a small amount each time.

Treatment

Every week, or sometimes twice a week if I feel like my hair needs it, I use a deep conditioning mask. I highly recommend this for anyone with dry or colored hair. I’ve used the Macadamia Natural Oil Deep Repair Masque that a friend kindly gifted, but it’s a bit hard to find here. L’Oreal hair masks are a good and affordable option. It doesn’t have a particular brand, but I also like the argan oil hair mask sold in a brown tub at Watson’s.

Frizz control

Humidity and colored, wavy hair don’t play well together. To combat frizz, I’ve mentioned the L’Oreal EverCurl leave-in cream several times here, which I apply on towel-dried hair. When hair is totally dry, I apply a couple of drops of argan oil just on the ends to further control frizz.
