Espina: Awards and cultural events-A A +A
Monday, November 29, 2010
THE 2010 Marriott Awards at its Grand Ballroom was something special for guests who came in beautiful long gowns and coat and tie, dramatic in black draperies and props, and gracious in the way GM Bruce Winton and staff led by PR manager Charlene Go and director of sales Dominic Dorol welcomed us . Well, I have attended so many functions at the Marriott (and this is also true at the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel) and the warm reception has always been accorded to all fairly and lovingly.
Exhibits and cuisine fests
The Beauty, Health and Wellness Show 2010 grand opening at the Ayala Center and the opening of the Loy Krathong Festival, a celebration of culture and cuisine hosted by Thai Airways completed the last leg of October events. My next article will bring us to the opening of Radisson Blu and Philippine Airline’s Daghang Salamat.
Plantation does it again
The multi-awarded Plantation Bay was again a recipient of the outstanding service award given by the 888 Forum. Kudos to Manny Osmeña and Efren Belarmino who always keep Plantation Bay on the tourism centerpiece.
Congratulations to Marco Protacio, the new event chairman of Miss Cebu 2011.
Manila Symphony, and Mini
Kudos to the Arts Council of Cebu for always giving Cebu a rare artistic musical experience.
The Manila Symphony Orchestra in One Symphonic Evening featured pianist Rudolf Golez and violinist Joseph Esmilla before an appreciative audience at the Radisson Blu. We thank Petite Garcia, Marissa Fernan, Mayen Tan (fresh from the success of Mini) and Elena Young for the warm reception and dinner.
Steps Dance project
Sofia Zobel Elizalde was in Cebu to promote Pinoy Christmas and excerpts from the Nutcracker Ballet, and at the same time introduce the scholarship program of the Steps Dance Foundation which trains young artists in well-rounded dance education in classical ballet, modern dance; street dance; flamenco and tap dance. Their show in Cebu drew a large crowd.
Gov. Gwen Garcia, Cebu City Mayor Mike Rama, Cong. Luigi Quisumbing, Councilor Edu Rama and Tessa Prieto Valdez were special guests of Tess and daughter Jean Fernando during the opening of the Elizabeth Hotel. The blessings accentuated by a fashion show by muralist Alfred Galvez plus big raffle prizes drew a good number of guests from the business and tourism sectors, we thank Dane Torrefranca for the invitation.
