Limpag: Me, myself and migraine at the Holiday Run

Mike T. Limpag
Fair Play

MAYBE because of its nature, running, kinda makes you schizophrenic.

You mean like this? Reallyreallyreally? Hey, you’re still here?

"The Manny Pacquiao Blog". Click here for stories and updates on the Filipino boxing champ.

When you start struggling, your friends pop up. You know, friends whom you listen to when you’re alone and you debate between drinking and working.

Close to a thousand joined the Holiday Spa run—including a lot of couples.

I guess running is the new badminton, the new “date sport.” Members of the athletics team of different schools were there too, as well as a few running clubs.

My two friends showed up too. Despite the distractions, they kept me entertained.

What the hell got into your mind? IT’SSUNDAY!! Icouldstillbesleepingtoday. It’s a 6K, not a marathon….It’s a 6K, not a marathon…It’s a…Hot girls at two o’clock! Nowthatwillwakeevenadeadguy.

It was just one of two runs yesterday, yet another double-run Sunday. The second one was in Talisay. That one also attracted a thousand runners, including a few members of the media, who were already drooling for the lechon meal before the run.

I want that run, how come I’m not running there!!!Ey, Haide’s here. Maybe Talisay is too far for her, too.

Politicians too—the mayors under Rep. Eddie Gullas’ district—together with their councilors joined the Talisay Run.

Have fund, will run! Or is it, will run for the fund of it!!! Hmm, do their heartbeats go “VOTEforme, VOTEforme, VOTEforme? Dude, that’s so lame.

The Holiday Spa Run, too, had some political firepower. Barangay Captain Mary Ann delos Santos was there, together with Joel Garganera and Jonathan Guardo.

Let’s ask her for some basketballs, maybe Joy’ll show up. Hey Cap’n!!!Cap’n!!! SHUT UP! Running behind politicos has its advantage, look at how the tanods make sure no car gets in the way. Big deal! I want them balls!

Garganera, Guardo and some 30 Cebuanos, including columnist John Pages, were using the run as a warm-up for the grueling Quezon City 42K, this Sunday.

How come nobody from BOPK is running? If there’s a wake, would they come runnin’? WHOlettheDEADout..who, whowhowho..WHOletthedeadout..I’M NOT WITH

THIS CRAZY GUY!!! Why are people staring at us? Yo fat dude! Gotaproblem? Duh, because you’re talking to yourself?

I’m not! I’mtalkingtobothofyou, am I?

Aside from the Quezon City group, two more groups will join marathons in Subic and in Amsterdam.

The one in Subic is unique because they will start at 4 p.m., and finish around midnight, saving the runners from the brunt of the sun. The one in Quezon won’t offer the same respite.

Heyheyhey, I know another marathon we can do at night. Oh brother, not that again. I even have a perfect name for it—Lingamarathon!!! Enough with that Lingam!

That is so inappropriate, we’re at a Holiday Spa event, remember? Grab a senseofhumorwillya? Uh-oh, fat dude just overtook us. Let him. It’s a run, not a race.

What makes running excel over other sport, I guess, is what you experience near the finish line.

Is it just me or did they move the effin finish line by 10 miles? It’s just you, as always, you’re imagining things again. Isn’t that supposedtobe ironic comingfromyou?

Often, in other events you’d see a few smug “elite players” snicker at those who are out of shape. There is no such case in running.

You see people encouraging you. You see them getting encouraged by you. Yesterday, one of those who finished early was telling everybody, “Good job, good job.

That’s it! Finish strong!”

And that, my friend, is why running is up and running.

WAAAATTTEERRRRRR!!!! See you next Sunday!

I guess it’s time for me to disappear, too.

Aw shucks, I still have to write my column!
