FAMILY and relatives of Vice Gov. Gregorio Sanchez Jr. are mum on rumors that the number two official of the Province of Cebu is suffering from stage four lung cancer.
“I will not confirm or deny (the rumor). As far as I know, he only has a throat problem, and aside from medication, he needs to rest his voice. But I cannot divulge the details,” said Yody Sanchez, the vice governor’s nephew and barangay captain of Busay, Cebu City.
The rumor that the vice governor is suffering from lung cancer that has reached the fourth stage—the most advanced phase of cancer, in which the tumor has spread to another region of the body or another lobe of the lungs—has been circulating in the business community in the past weeks.
Yody, who is program director of radio station dyDD in Metro Cebu, said the vice governor is in Manila with his family to undergo treatment.
“There’s no cause for alarm because the vice governor’s treatment is doing well. He wants to report back to his office but was advised by his family to rest further so (he could recover) his voice,” he said.
But he said he cannot divulge the vice governor’s location because his friends and supporters may visit him and that may hamper the ongoing treatment of his throat problem.
The vice governor suddenly disappeared from public view after he complained that he had lost his voice.
Speech difficulties or chan-ges, such as hoarseness, are among the symptoms associated with lung cancer, according to www.on-cologychannel.com.
