Globe subscribers having problems with texting, calls

GLOBE Telecom suffered a fiber cut that caused a service interruption, which left millions of subscribers unable to make calls, send text messages and access the Internet since noon yesterday.
As of 9 p.m., service has not been restored yet.
On its Facebook page, Globe published an advisory at 4:30 p.m. assuring its subscribers that repair works were ongoing to restore mobile phone and Internet services.
“Globe Telecom experienced a service interruption covering selected areas in Visayas and Mindanao due to a fiber cut. As a result, subscribers may experience difficulty in sending text messages, making calls or using mobile Internet in these areas.
Globe assures its subscribers that service restoration is ongoing. Subscribers will be informed as soon as service is back to normal,” read the advisory from Globe, which has around 24.62 million subscribers as of end-June 2010.
But its clients were not appeased.
Angry subscribers flooded Globe’s Facebook wall, with some asking for a refund of the subscription fee for their unlimited calls and text service yesterday.
“Please fix it quickly. Your ASAP isn't soon enough. Sayang ang BB (Blackberry) plan subscription ko. We subscribe for the service because we need it. Please do have precautionary measures next time. More than a couple of hours are way unbearable already,” a comment read.
Other subscribers also complained that the service interruption was not confined to Visayas and Mindanao, but also affected Globe users from as far as Nueva Ecija, Albay and Marikina City.
According to www.pcmag.com, a fiber cut is an accidental break in an optical fiber, typically due to new construction in the area.
Sun.Star Cebu tried calling Globe Telecom officials yesterday but their mobile phones could not be reached.
Another subscriber appealed to Globe to fix the problem, saying they anticipate making emergency calls because of typhoon Bebeng.
While others complained of delayed transactions because of the service interruption, others whined about feeling cut off from their loved ones here and abroad even after Globe assured they were fixing the problem.
“Whatever! You’re destroying my love life!” a comment on Globe’s wall read.
