Parking crackdown in Cebu City

THE Cebu City Government will now be stricter in implementing parking rules.
Mayor Michael Rama recently instructed the Office of the Building Official (OBO) and the City Planning and Development Office (CPDO) that all building plans will have to pass through the City Traffic Operations Management (Citom) before issuing a locational clearance to the building owner.
Purpose
“The mayor wants Citom to check the parking arrangements of each building that will be constructed in the city aron ma-klaro gyud ang parking setup nila (so they can check out the parking setup),” said Engr. Josefa Ylanan, OBO acting chief.
In the past, Ylanan said, building plans only passed through CPDO before locational clearance was issued.
She said the mayor wants to disallow diagonal parking in all buildings, especially those along secondary roads, to improve traffic in the city.
She said the “nose in, nose out” parking policy will be strictly implemented instead of the “nose in, back out” policy.
She asked the public to immediately report to Citom violators so they can arrested.
Penalties
Citom board chairman Sylvan Jakosalem had warned building owners to implement the “nose in, nose out” policy or risk having the front of their buildings barricaded by the City.
He also said violators who have a locational clearance may not be issued a building or occupancy permit.
He said the Citom board has an approved resolution to install railings on buildings that do not follow the approved building plans and the City’s parking policy.
