GLOOMY weather led to the postponement of the demolition of the houses on a disputed lot owned by lawyer Raul Sesbreño in Barangay Lawaan 2, Talisay City.

Sheriff Constancio Alimurong announced yesterday at 9 a.m. that the demolition will be postponed due to bad weather.

At noon yesterday, Sun.Star Cebu received a text from Peter Sesbreño, son of lawyer Sesbreño, that the demolition was postponed because of the earthquake that occurred at 11:49 a.m.

The demolition of almost 42 houses will push through today.

The demolition delighted some residents, as others were packing, resigned to the fact that they would soon be homeless.

“It’s better that we leave to avoid a confrontation,” said one of the residents.

Meanwhile, Ranulfo Daligdig, representative of the residents, said they are planning to file a case against Sheriff Alimurong and Sesbreño.

“We will still have to consult our lawyers on what case to file,” said Daligdig.

Talisay City Police Chief Eddie Recamara sent 10 police officers to guard the area yesterday, as Talisay City Administrator Richel Bacaltos said the City instructed the police to tighten security during the demolition.

“We will step in once we know how we can help. For now, we are depending on the police
for everyone’s security,” said Bacaltos.

“Definitely, the demolition will push through,” said Peter.

The disputed lot in Lawaan 2, Talisay City led to a dispute between Sesbreño and the residents.

Peter said his father will not be around during the demolition, as Sesbreño is on vacation after the loss of his wife.

Two motorcycle-riding men ambushed Sesbreño’s wife Virginia, 65, her friend Soledad Epanto, and Joshua Young, 30, in Sitio Rabaya, Barangay Cansojong, Talisay City.

Lawyer Sesbreño blamed the police’s “inefficiency” for not providing them with a police escort during last Wednesday’s demolition.

Three occupants of Raul’s lot, whose houses were demolished, will be invited by police operatives for questioning.

“We will only invite them for questioning as part of our investigation. We are now focusing on the ongoing demolition in Lawaan, Talisay City as one of the motives of the ambush,” said Recamara.
