EXACTLY a year ago today, six-year-old Ellah Joy Pique was found dead below a cliff in the southwestern town of Barili.
The day before, the first grader was abducted outside her school in Barangay Calajoan, Minglanilla.
Her father Renante Pique said he will offer prayers, flowers and candles today on the site where Ellah Joy, the youngest of three children and his only daughter, was found.
“Pinangayo nako na siya (I prayed for a daughter),” he said.
Yesterday afternoon, the faculty of the Calajoan Elementary School offered a mass for Ellah Joy.
Attached to the backdrop of the school stage were Ellah Joy’s picture and her classmates’ drawings of hearts and handwritten messages of love for the child.
Ellah Joy’s best friend and neighbor, Jasmine Trangia, 8, said she misses her playmate.
“We always played hide-and-seek and other games,” said Trangia, now a grade 2 pupil.
Dionisia Gallardo, Ellah Joy’s teacher, said she is sure her pupil is now in heaven.
“Matagaan lang ta siyag saktong hustisya (I hope her death will be given justice),” the teacher said.
