THE Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) will deploy 150 to 200 policemen in different parts of the city to secure today’s fiesta celebration.
Police Chief Supt. Noel Gillamac, head of MCPO, also advised the public to avoid displaying their wealth, such as wearing jewelry, as this will attract criminals.
In a phone interview, Gillamac said public assistance centers will be put up in various areas.
He said there have been no untoward incident since the fiesta’s opening salvo last April 28.
Police will exercise maximum tolerance in dealing with people who display rowdy behavior, instead of arresting them right away, said Gillamac.
Trainees
Field trainees from the Regional Training School will also be deployed to help ensure peace and order in the city today, he said.
Seven major roads in the city will be closed to traffic today for the fiesta, which is celebrated in honor of St. Joseph the Worker, the city’s patron saint.
In a traffic advisory, the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue said it will close the following streets: S.B. Cabahug St. corner A.C. Cortes Ave. up to S.B. Cabahug St. corner A. Soriano Ave; C. Ouano St. corner Plaridel St. up to C. Ouano St. corner S.B. Cabahug; St. P. Burgos St. corner A.C. Cortes Ave. up to Burgos St. corner A. Soriano Ave.; Gomez St. corner B. Ceniza St.; A. del Rosario St. corner B. Ceniza St.; Zamora St. corner P. Burgos St.; and U.M. Seno St. corner P. Burgos St.
Activities in this year’s fiesta included the cooperative night, Department of Education night, Mandaue Got Talent, Comedy Dance Showdown and Market Olympics, and senior citizen’s night.
Tomorrow’s fiesta celebration will be capped with a fireworks display at the new public market.
The fiesta celebration will end on Wednesday, with a recognition night for fiesta committees.
