REP. Tomas Osmeña will have his regular check-up in the United States, just in time for the Manny “Pacman” Pacquaio fight with American boxer Timothy Bradley.
Rep. Osmeña, wife Councilor Margarita Osmeña and son Miguel flew to the United States yesterday.
Rep. Osmeña said he never denied he has timed his regular checkup for the Pacman fight.
“The doctor told me that I can have my regular checkup every nine months, but Pacquiao fights every six months. So I time it (checkup) every six months,” the congressman said, laughing.
The family will be arriving in California on the same date as they left the country, June 8. The next day, the family will fly to Las Vegas to watch the Pacquiao fight, although Councilor Osmeña is not expected to watch the fight live at the MGM Grand Arena.
On the 10th, the family will proceed to Houston, Texas, where the congressman has a scheduled regular checkup at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center.
The last time he was there was in December, shortly before Christmas.
The Osmeñas will be back in Cebu after eight days.
A challenge
Rep. Osmeña said that even if Pacquiao is a seasoned fighter, all fights are a challenge to him and Bradley has never known defeat.
He likened the fight to his eventual mayoralty race against his successor, Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama, in the 2013 elections.
“Mike Rama is dali (easy), but I take all elections seriously,” said Rep. Osmeña.
Like the congressman, Rama did not make a forecast on the Pacquiao-Bradley fight.
“Dag-a lang, ‘Quiao (Just win it, Pacquiao),” Rama said.
The fight will be aired in the country on Sunday, June 10.
