CEBU Provincial Board Member Arleigh Sitoy said his daughter will run for mayor of Cordova town next year.
Lawyer Leighna Katrina Sitoy-Abarquez will take her oath as a new member of the Liberal Party (LP) next week, Sitoy told reporters yesterday.
Sitoy said his father, Cordova Mayor Adelino Sitoy, will return to the private sector as a college dean.
But when asked for reaction, the older Sitoy did not confirm his not running for mayor next year.
“Sulbaron pa na namo sa pamilya (My family has not addressed that matter yet),” he said.
Sitoy-Abarquez, 32, is Board Member Sitoy’s second child. A practicing lawyer, she took up law at the Ateneo de Manila University.
Sitoy said Hilario “Junjun” Davide III, LP’s provincial chairman, will administer his daughter’s oath-taking.
Possible foe
Boxing promoter Rex “Wacky” Salud has been rumored to run for Cordova mayor.
Boxing champion and Saranggani congressman Manny Pacquiao, according to reports, will back Salud’s candidacy.
When asked for comment, Sitoy said Salud is facing residency issues.
He said Salud should first establish his status as a Cordova resident before deciding to run for mayor.
“I just hope he will reconsider. The way I see him, he is a reasonable man,” Sitoy said.
Cordova held the 13th Cordova Dinagat Festival yesterday. Local and national politicians gathered in Sitoy’s residence for lunch.
Guests
Present at the lunch were Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, Rep. Pablo John Garcia (Cebu, third district), Rep. Luigi Quisumbing (Cebu, sixth district), Cebu Provincial Board Member Thadeo Ouano, Mayor Sitoy, and Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes.
Las Piñas Rep. Cynthia Villar and Bayan Muna Rep. Teddy Casiño were also present.
Governor Garcia will run for senator next year while her brother, Pablo John, will run for governor under the One Cebu Party.
Quisumbing and Ouano recently left One Cebu Party in favor of LP. Quisumbing took his oath as an LP member last May while Ouano is slated to take his oath today.
