Garbage policy to be tested in 4 Talisay villages-A A +A

THE Talisay City Government plans to implement its no segregation, no collection policy in four barangays in the city starting next month.
Starting Sept. 1, Barangays Pooc, Poblacion, Lawaan III and Bulacao will serve as pilot areas for the implementation of the policy on solid waste management, said Talisay City Administrator Richel Bacaltos.
Bacaltos, in an interview with Sun.Star Cebu, said the Talisay City Council approved its implementation last year.
Bacaltos said the implementation of the project in the four barangays will determine if it will be done in all the other barangays.
He said that the City Solid Waste Management Board will monitor the pilot barangays to check if the policy is followed.
Bacaltos said they are now planning for the creation of an enforcement team that will ensure that the solid waste management policies of the city are strictly enforced.
He said that before the City Government begins its test implementation, the employees of the Talisay City Hall served as models for the barangays by implementing the policy in their offices.
If the project is successful in the four barangays, it will be implemented in other barangays in November, Bacaltos said.
Bacaltos added they will also monitor the barangays’ implementation of other solid waste management programs, such as putting up their own materials recovery facility (MRF).
Last year, the Solid Waste Management Office announced their plan to implement the “no segregation, no collection” policy after learning that unsegregated and uncollected waste clogged open canals in the city, causing floods.
