LAPU-LAPU City recorded 39 cases of dengue last month, bringing to 211 the number of cases in the city this year.
Last month’s figure was almost half the number of cases registered in June. With 61 cases, June recorded the highest number of cases this year.
The City Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Unit recorded two deaths this year. The first death occurred last January while the second was recorded in May.
Earlier, City Health Officer Dr. Rodulfo Berame said they focus their anti-dengue efforts in schools because many of the cases involved children.
They send officers to check sanitation in schools and get rid of possible breeding grounds of dengue-carrying mosquitos, Berame said.
Last month, Barangays Pajo and Bankal registered the most number of cases, with six each.
Of the 30 barangays, Basak and Pajac had the most number of cases this year with 23 each.
The City distributed chemical solutions called “abate” for stagnant water in the barangays, Berame said.
They have also provided schools with chemical solution where curtains are soaked to drive away mosquitoes.
Schools and households have also been provided with ova/larval traps, which are tin cans containing abate.
Berame said the weekly cleanup drive in barangays, which is ordered by the City Government, has helped reduce the number of dengue fever cases.
