Ronda to give Garcias its ‘all-out support’-A A +A
Sunday, September 2, 2012
RONDA town received a total of P4.61 million in cash and infrastructure projects, including a birthing center and public restrooms, yesterday.
Some town officials, led by Mayor Mariano “Noni” Blanco and Vice Mayor John Ungab, hosted a mass oath-taking of new One Cebu members, then helped Gov. Gwen Garcia and Rep. Pablo John Garcia distribute P2.73 million in financial assistance to 14 barangay captains and Mayor Blanco’s programs.
Mayor Blanco, in his acceptance speech, said Rondahanons are not “ingrato” (ungrateful) and he urged them to show their gratitude by giving the Garcias their all-out support (“makabongog nga supporta”).
Congressman Garcia is running for governor in 2013, while his sister, who will have served three consecutive terms, will run for the Senate.
After the distribution of cash aid, the Garcias’ father, Rep. Pablo Garcia (Cebu, 2nd district), handed over a check for P200,000 to Mayor Blanco as assistance for their town fiesta later this month.
A total of P75,000 from the total cash amount distributed are sourced from the legislative assistance fund (LAF) of members of the Sanguniang Panlalawigan, who belong to different parties.
The governor and town officials distributed a total of P2.73 million cash assistance to barangay captains, for their health and day care centers, and the mayor’s socio-cultural programs and the rehabilitation of a legislative building.
Governor Garcia and the two congressmen also inaugurated yesterday the town’s newly completed P1.055-million birthing center and a public toilet that cost P629,450.
After the inauguration, they went to the town’s sports complex for the mass oath-taking of new members of One Cebu Party.
All those that filled the town gym pledged, “Human dawata isip sakop sa One Cebu Party, ako moabag alang sa kadaugan niini ug sa tanan niyang pilionon… (After being accepted as a new member of One Cebu Party, I will work for its victory and all its aspirants),” the people.
Of the total cash assistance, P40,000 was sourced from Provincial Board (PB) Member Peter John Calderon’s legislative assistance fund (LAF) and another P10,000 sourced from PB Member Wilfredo Caminero’s LAF.
Another P25,000 is sourced from Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale’s LAF.
Hilario “Junjun” Davide III and Magpale, LP’s gubernatorial and vice gubernatorial candidates are facing One Cebu’s PJ Garcia and Ramon “Boboy” Durano IV.
Calderon and Caminero, former One Cebu Party members, last Aug. 29 took their oath as Liberal Party members before party president and Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Mar Roxas.
Congressman Pablo Garcia earlier said that even after the PB members bolted from One Cebu, they will continue giving support to the constituents of these officials.
But Governor Garcia the other day stressed that since her administration has already spread the benefits among Cebu’s local goverments, they will now give priority to chief executives who showed their appreciation for the assistance and project funds they previously received.
