THE Theft and Robbery Section (TRS) of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) advised subdivision residents to strengthen their security against burglaries that happen at dawn and noontime.
PO3 Jovito Labra, of the TRS, said one way to prevent burglary is to be cautious and to stay alert.
He said sliding windows and doors without grills in houses are not advisable as burglars can easily penetrate them.
He said having a dog may also be helpful in warning owners of strangers coming in the house.
“Most important thing is to avoid carelessness and lock all doors,” he said.
TRS said the CCPO cannot post policemen in different subdivisions. It is already the role of the subdivisions’ security guards to guard the subdivision.
SPO4 Ernesto Panaligan of TRS also said subdivisions must also have a lot of security guards who will stay in different areas to prevent any burglaries.
But TRS said they may send policemen to roam around the different areas prone to burglary.
A couple was burglarized and lost almost P20,000 worth of jewelry.
Labra said the house of the couple is even situated next to the guardhouse.
Last May, a burglar also carted away more than a million pesos worth of items from the room of a Korean national.
The victims, residing in a subdivision in Barangay Lahug, Cebu City, discovered the robbery at 10:30 p.m. last May 1.
The burglar reportedly destroyed the doorknob of the main door to gain entry, and went to the master bedroom on the second floor.
The burglar then destroyed the vault inside the room.
The items taken include a Canon 5D Mark Z camera worth P 110,000, three Canon camera lenses (P84,000), three Nikon camera lenses (P198,000), 6EA lens filter (P29,000), Olympus camera (P29,000), Sony Nex-5 camera (P37,000), camera backpack (P5,600), Rolex watch (P330,000), Oris watch (P110,000), iPad 04G (P25,000), and a MacBook Pro laptop (P90,000).
The burglar also took a safe box containing P15,000 cash.
