SOME residents in Cebu City saw a twister over the city’s mountain areas yesterday afternoon.
Cerwin Eviota, a former Cebu City Hall consultant, said he saw the twister from his house in Barangay Kalunasan. He said the twister looked like it hit the area of Barangay Buhisan or Barangay Antuangan, Cebu City, although he said he could not be sure.
“It looks like what you see in the movies,” said Eviota.
He said the twister looks like an inverted cone shape and was moving in a circular
motion while staying in one place.
He said the twister lasted for almost five minutes.
Vangie Tolentino of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical Services Administration said the weather bureau’s radar did not detect such phenomenon yesterday.
She said a twister usually forms when there are thick rain clouds.
She said a twister is like a miniature tornado that usually occurs near the sea or when the clouds in the area are hit by strong winds.
