THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has allocated P622.7 million for various projects in Cebu’s sixth district.
Rep. Gabriel Luis “Luigi” Quisumbing (Cebu, sixth district) facilitated the fund allocation under the national budget for 2012.
Of the P622.7 million, P188 million was allocated initially for a flyover that was supposed to be constructed on Ouano Ave. near Parkmall and Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) at Mandaue City’s North Reclamation Area.
But the flyover project did not push through following protests conducted by the Movement for Livable Cebu against similar projects in Cebu City. The DPWH reviewed the project and found it wasn’t feasible.
With the permission of Quisumbing, DPWH 7 re-aligned the budget to three projects: the rehabilitation of the United Nations Ave. leading to Marcelo Fernan Bridge, retroplating or strengthening of the Butuanon River, and the asphalt overlay work on Ouano Ave.
Changes
The DPWH 7 planning division under Engr. Nonie Paylado worked on the changes following the scrapping of the flyover project, while the construction division under Engr. Rogelio Oracoy made the summary of quantities, or items of work, of the three projects.
Another amount of P39.239 million was allocated for roads and bridges that include the Cebu North Road Hagnaya Road and the Canduman Cebu North Road.
Also included in the P622.7 million appropriation are the P83 million for the Cebu North Coastal Road and P12.5 million for national bridges.
Paylado said that all the projects in the sixth district facilitated by Quisumbing will be completed before the end of the year.
Quisumbing said he is happy that his projects have been started and funded under DPWH’s regular infrastructure appropriation for 2012.
