AN ELEVEN-YEAR-OLD girl who stabbed her father to death to save her mother in Argao town will undergo psychological evaluation.
Flordeliza Botero, head of the town’s social welfare and development, said “Pearl” is in the custody of her relatives.
Sun.Star Cebu withholds the real names of the family to protect the child.
The girl’s father Edmund, 38, was laid to rest last Monday afternoon upon the request of the family, said Insp. Alejandro Batobalonos, head of Argao Police Station.
The burial was attended by the girl’s mother Sheila, 37, and some relatives. Pearl and her two sisters stayed at home.
Jane, 13, the elder sister, told Sun.Star Cebu she still loves his father despite the incident.
“Wala man gyud mi hilabti ni papa. Kung naa mi pangayuon, ihatag man niya sad (Our father never hurt us. He gave us what we need),” she said.
The stabbing incident happened late Sunday night inside the family’s house in Barangay Canbanua after the father came home drunk.
Sheila, who said she had enough of her live-in partner’s womanizing ways, confronted him. This led to a fight.
Pearl took a knife and stabbed her father in the chest when he allegedly began to saw off the mother’s leg.
In a report over GMA 7’s Balitang Bisdak, a psychiatrist believed the girl may be suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, or a severe anxiety disorder, that can develop after such experience.
The family’s neighbors said the couple usually fought over Edmund’s alleged other women. Most of the time, the girls hid from their father to avoid getting hurt.
Supt. Audie Villacin, head of the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Branch (RIDMB), asked the public to report incidents of domestic violence.
