REP. Pablo John Garcia (Cebu, third district) said he is sure the results of the surveys for the senatorial aspirants will figure in Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia’s decision regarding her plans for the 2013 elections.

Gwen landed on the 25th slot in the Aug. 25 to Sept. 7, 2012 Pulse Asia survey of senate aspirants for the 2013 elections, as reported by ABS-CBN.

The result shows a jump of seven slots from a similar survey conducted in the second quarter this year.

Pablo John said the survey shows that the path to the Senate will be difficult but not impossible.

He said the governor only has an “awareness level” of 49 percent yet managed to land among the top 25.

“Her awareness level is just at 49 percent yet she’s keeping pace with those with higher awareness levels,” Pablo John said in a text message to Sun.Star Cebu yesterday.

In the same survey, Gov. Gwen landed 45th in the list last December then 32nd in the second quarter of the year.

Top 3

The Pulse Asia survey listed Sen. Loren Legarda, Francis Escudero and Alan Peter Cayetano in the top three.

Pulse Asia said the top 15 aspirants included in the survey have a statistical chance of winning.

However, Pablo John said if his sister, Gov. Gwen, will choose to run for Congress instead of a senatorial seat, she will have more time to campaign for him around the province and she can focus on strengthening the One Cebu party.

Pablo John is the gubernatorial bet of One Cebu Party, which is chaired by the governor.

Speculation has circulated the governor will withdraw her plans of seeking a senatorial seat.

Focus

The third district mayors have asked the governor to run for a congressional position so she can focus more on helping the Cebuanos and the party.

When was asked what he thought was the best position the governor should run for, Pablo John said it is the governor’s decision.

“I’m the wrong person to ask for advice because I have an ulterior motive… So she should be allowed to reach a decision freely without my advice,” Pablo John said in a text message.

Gwen has yet to give statements ever since reports came out that she will not pursue her senatorial plan.
