A FORMER official of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) was shot dead inside his house in Barangay Kamputhaw, Cebu City before noon yesterday.
Retired Chief Insp. Simplicio Niñeza, 65, bore gunshot wounds in his chest, eye and shoulder.
Police took the victim's son Glenn, 37, into custody on suspicion he killed his father following a fight.
Senior Insp. Jul Mohammad Jamiri, head of Cebu City Police Office's Homicide Section, told reporters they have a witness who heard Glenn asking money from his father, followed by an argument and gunfire.
Residents said they heard the commotion past 11 a.m. and saw the victim bathed in blood.
Crime scence
Seven empty shells and two deformed slugs of a .45 pistol were recovered from the crime scene.
Jamiri said the victim and his son were not in good terms, as Niñeza was disappointed with his son because of an alleged drug addiction.
Glenn was invited by the police shortly after the incident and Jamiri noticed something strange in his behavior.
“Among nakita sa iyahang reaksyon susama sa usa ka suspek ug dili reaksyon sa usa ka anak nga nawad-an ug amahan (His reaction was that of a suspect, not that of a son who had just lost a father),” he said.
Glenn, when interviewed by reporters, denied the allegation, saying he was not around at that time. He admitted he had a falling out with his father.
He will submit himself to a paraffin test to establish he didn't shoot and kill his father.
He said he can also provide witnesses to prove he was not there.
