DANAO City Councilor Jose Miguel Magpale will take his oath of office as Cebu Provincial Board member on Sept. 26.
He will fill up the slot vacated by his mother, Agnes Magpale, who was appointed as vice governor following the death of the late vice governor Gregorio Sanchez Jr.
The younger Magpale said he will take oath before Municipal Trial Court in Cities (MTCC) Judge Maria Josefina C. Pinza-Ramos and Vice Mayor Ramon “Nito” Durano III.
Magpale said President Benigno Aquino III signed his appointment as board member last Aug. 16, or two days before DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo died when a Piper Seneca plane of Aviatour’s Flyin’ Inc. crashed into the seawaters off Masbate.
From Malacañang, Magpale’s appointment was forwarded to the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) in Manila. The DILG central office then forwarded it to DILG 7 last Aug. 30.
DILG 7 forwarded Magpale’s appointment to the Office of the Cebu Governor last Sept. 3. The Office of the Cebu Governor then forwarded it to the the Office of the Vice Governor last Sept. 12. The Office of the Vice Governor forwarded it to the Danao City Council last Monday.
Magpale received the appointment yesterday.
Magpale was supposed to take his oath of office as board member last July 7 before Aquino, when the president attended the birthday of Durano. Durano took his oath of office as a Liberal Party (LP) member that time.
But Magpale failed to take his oath because Vice Gov. Magpale wanted a proper appointment for her son.
The oath-taking on Sept. 26 is timely for the LP in the Cebu Provincial Board because they are discussing the Cebu Province annual budget for 2013.
Magpale is a nephew of Department of Energy Secretary Rene Almendras and brother of former board member Josefina Magpale Asirit.
