POLICE arrested a 15-year-old boy last Wednesday for allegedly raping a nine-year-old girl in the mountain barangay of Sibago, Pinamungajan, Cebu.
A confidentiality provision of the law prohibits Sun.Star Cebu from naming the suspect and the victim.
The boy’s arrest stemmed from a warrant issued by Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 57 Judge Hermes Montero of Toledo City last Sept. 11.
The boy will be sent to a rehabilitation center for youths in the southern town of Argao.
Insp. Raymundo Enriquez, Pinamungajan police chief, said the incident allegedly took place inside a nipa hut last summer.
Negative
The girl was with her family in a farm when the boy allegedly abducted her. He brought her inside the hut where he allegedly took off her clothes and began dry-humping her.
The girl’s parents, who were alarmed by their daughter’s disappearance, went to look for her.
When they found her, the boy was allegedly on top of their daughter.
Enriquez said the victim was subjected to a medical examination, but the result came back negative for rape.
“Bisan wala mahilabti, nangusog gyud ang ginikanan sa biktima nga sangatan og kaso (Maybe the girl wasn’t raped, but her parents were adamant about filing a case against the boy),” he said.
Enriquez said the suspect’s family and friends still couldn’t believe he would sexually assault the girl, who is his neighbor.
“Buotan kuno ning bataa (According to them, he’s a nice kid),” he said.
