I still call the shots: Gullas
-A A +ASaturday, September 29, 2012
MAYORS in the first district are not united when it comes to their choice of governor and vice governor in next year’s elections.
Five of them led by City of Naga Mayor Valdemar Choing openly announced their support for One Cebu candidates Rep. Pablo John Garcia (for governor) and former Danao City vice mayor Ramon “Boboy” Durano IV (for vice governor).
Only one supports lawyer Hilario “Junjun” Davide III and Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale, candidates of the LP-Bakud Party coalition.
Reminder
However, First District Rep. Eduardo “Eddiegul” Gullas said the mayors still take their cue from him.
“One thing is for sure… the mayors mag-agad nako (will depend on me). Ug unsa na sila karun, ako nang diktar, mag-agad na sila nako (They wouldn’t be where they are if it weren’t for me). I’ve been silent… For example, Carcar and Naga, masyudad ba na sila og di pa si Eddiegul (they wouldn’t become a city if I didn’t push for it)?” Gullas told reporters yesterday.
However, he clarified that he cannot compel the mayors to follow his lead, adding that he often consults them over matters of importance.
He said he has already met with officials of One Cebu and the LP.
Not an issue
Gullas said that with the alliance of the LP and the Nacionalista Party, of which he is a member, there are no political disputes between members of both parties in the first district.
Gullas said, he has gained the trust of both parties since the coalition was formed.
He also said he has nothing against Davide or LP stalwarts in his district, particularly San Fernando Mayor Antonio Canoy.
Gullas said he respects Davide’s decision to retain Canoy as district chairman of LP.
Chiong had said they would support Pablo John’s gubernatorial bid as a sign of gratitude to his sister, Gov. Gwen Garcia.
