WITH only two days before the filing of certificates of candidacy (COCs), the Liberal Party (LP) has yet to respond to Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama’s request for nomination for the 2013 elections.
The mayor’s political opponent, Rep. Tomas Osmeña (Cebu City, south district) who also heads the Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan, got his certificate of nomination from the LP last week.
Rama earlier gave the LP until yesterday to respond to his letter. He said LP cannot ignore him as he is also a member, continuously paying dues and attending meetings of the ruling party.
But when he did not get any response yesterday, Rama said he will continue to wait for LP’s reply. “Waiting is a virtue. So just wait,” he said.
Those who want to run for public office in 2013 have Oct. 1 to 5 to file their certificates of candidacy.
Rama said he met former south district congressman Antonio Cuenco, his son James Cuenco who will run for city councilor under the ticket of Team Rama and their group’s general campaign manager Councilor Jose Daluz III in Manila last Thursday.
“We discussed all the possibilities with the deadline of the filing of the COC as well as the certificate of nomination,” he said.
Asked what they discussed, Rama retorted: “Abangan ang susunod na kabanata (Wait for the next episode).” He said he will be meeting continuously with members of his group.
