Biz groups back road project in Naga, Carcar

BUSINESS groups have expressed their support for the road projects in the first district.

The projects include a road-widening in the cities of Naga and Carcar.

The Cebu Business Club and 14 other business chambers in Cebu announced their support for the widening and concreting of the Naga-Carcar highway and the completion of a diversion road in Carcar City expected to be finished before the end of the year.

The groups include Cebu Leads Foundation Inc., the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (Rafi), Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), Mactan Island Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, American Chamber of Commerce, European Chamber of Commerce, Canadian Chamber of Commerce, Hotel, Resort and Restaurant Association of Cebu (HRRAC), Cebu Real Estate and Builders Association, Step up Young Entrepreneurs and Bosconian International Chamber of Commerce.

In his letter to Cebu Rep. Eduardo Gullas (Cebu, first district), Gordon Alan Joseph, Cebu Business Club president, said he and his colleagues believe the projects will make Cebu more competitive by attracting tourists and investors.

Their support for the two projects stemmed from the initiative of CBC and other business chambers in Cebu to identify critical road infrastructure for inclusion in the 2013 national budget.

These projects, Joseph said, are identified according to developments that Cebu needs.

Gullas, in a press conference, told reporters he appreciates the groups’ support for his projects in the district.

In earlier interviews, Gullas said the ongoing road widening project in Naga and Carcar will not only help ease traffic in the area, it will also attract more investors.

Wish list

Cebu’s business chambers also expressed support for other critical infrastructure projects in other parts of Cebu.

They have endorsed the widening and concreting of M. Velez St.; the widening of M.J. Cuenco Ave.; the two junction improvements in areas near Parklane Hotel and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority 7 office; the widening project on Natalio Bacalso Ave.; the concreting and widening of the Banilad-Talamban Road with right-of-way acquisitions; and the Cebu City circumferential road.

They have also endorsed projects in the Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu Cities, such as the widening of the Hernan Cortes Road; the improvement of Logarta St.; the two proposed flyover projects near the Mandaue-Mactan bridges; and the widening of the Mactan Circumferential Road.

The groups also endorsed infrastructure projects in Cebu Province, such as the widening of the Cebu North Road from Cebu City to San Remigio; the improvement of Cebu Southwest Road; the widening and improvement of the Tayud Provincial Road; and the proposed Cebu North Coastal Highway.
