Police identified the arrested men as Jay-R Gascon, 20, and James Negardo, 21. Confiscated from them were a computer set, monitor, printer, and other items allegedly used in the illegal numbers game.
At 10:30 a.m. yesterday, Norberto Abellanosa Berongoy, 58, was also arrested by the elements of the Carbon Police Station for his alleged involvement in the illegal swertres. He was arrested in Sitio Freedom Park, Barangay Ermita.
Berongoy was allegedly caught in possession of a piece of paper with different number combinations, a blank stab, a tally sheet and bet money worth P1,000.
Carbon Police Station Chief Eunil Avergonzado said their operations were initiated after receiving reports about the illegal gambling operations in Ermita.
City Intelligence Branch Chief Romeo Santander said that Cebu City Police Office Director Melvin Ramon Buenafe issued a directive to make the city a “zero illegal gambling” place.
Santander said that the operations made by the different police stations were in response to Buenafe’s directive.
“The operation against illegal gambling will not only focus on number games but in all forms of gambling in Cebu City,” said Santander.
